Language Xchange Ireland’s Commitment to Sustainability

At Language Xchange Ireland (LXI), sustainability is woven into every aspect of our internship experience programmes in Ireland, ensuring that students, schools, and Erasmus+ coordinators benefit from eco‑friendly practices that are fully aligned with GDPR compliance and European hard law. Our dedication to environmental responsibility strengthens our reputation as a trusted Erasmus Partner Company in Ireland, delivering programmes that are both academically enriching and socially responsible.

One of our key initiatives is the introduction of green bus pooling for airport transfers, where participants are grouped according to flight times and share transport to their host family accommodation. This reduces carbon emissions, lowers traffic congestion, and provides a smoother arrival experience. Many Irish bus companies now operate on biodiesel, further reducing the environmental impact of student mobility.

Daily transport is equally sustainable through our high‑frequency carpooling system, which matches participants travelling to similar destinations. This maximises vehicle capacity, minimises emissions, and enhances community interaction. Students also share energy use with their host families, with 47% of Irish domestic electricity now generated from renewable sources. This integration of sustainable living ensures that every student placement in Ireland contributes to a greener future.

For more than a decade, LXI has operated as a paperless company, using digital documents, online forms, electronic signatures, and cloud storage to eliminate unnecessary paper waste. This approach reduces costs, enhances efficiency, and significantly lowers our environmental footprint.

Our commitment is independently validated through ISO 14001 accreditation, which we have held for seven years. This internationally recognised standard ensures that we maintain a robust environmental management system, conduct regular impact assessments, and continuously improve our sustainability practices. Annual audits by NQA confirm our compliance and reinforce our credibility as a provider of ISO‑certified Erasmus+ programmes in Ireland.

In Thomastown, we have launched a carbon offset programme to mitigate our footprint through tree planting, conservation projects, and renewable energy investment. From September 2024, LXI reimburses schools for their airline carbon offset purchases, encouraging carbon‑neutral travel within the Erasmus Plus Grant arrangement. This initiative allows EU schools to avail of green travel options, neutralising costs while promoting biodiversity and supporting the local environment.

Our partnership with NQA Sustainability provides expert guidance, helping us set ambitious environmental targets and achieve them through regular audits and best practice implementation. This collaboration enhances our credibility and ensures that our sustainability journey remains progressive and impactful.

By choosing Language Xchange Ireland, schools and students are not only accessing high‑quality Erasmus+ internships, student placements, and English language immersion programmes in Ireland, but also contributing to a greener, more sustainable future. Our innovation and compliance is your reassurance. Carbon neutral equals carbon cost neutral. Language Xchange Ireland — make learning unforgettable.
