Voluntary Work Placements – Internships – Erasmus Partner Company

Internship Experience Ireland (IE offers student groups the opportunity to improve their Business English through a structured Work Experience Programme that combines language learning with practical international placements. This programme is ideal for students seeking an internship, work experience, work placement, or Erasmus+ mobility in Ireland, and is tailored to match each participant’s studies and skills with a relevant Irish company in line with Erasmus, PON, and Movetia objectives.

Voluntary Work Placements typically run for 2–4 weeks, while Internships last 4–12 weeks, giving students the chance to gain international business experience, strengthen English language proficiency, and develop essential life skills. Participants live with Irish host families, attend social and cultural activities, and immerse themselves in authentic Irish workplaces. The programme is most suited to teenagers aged 17 years and older on arrival in Ireland, with placements available across a wide range of sectors.

Each Voluntary Work Placement and Internship Programme is built around five core elements:

  • A free 45‑hour e‑Learning preparation package prior to arrival in Ireland

  • Airport transfers for ease of travel

  • A tailored work placement or internship in a relevant Irish company

  • Host family accommodation for the duration of the stay

  • Weekly IE social nights and access to local events, plus organised cultural tours

Placements run Monday to Friday, with cultural tours every second weekend and mid‑week social evenings. Students can choose from a wide variety of work environments, ensuring placements are relevant and rewarding. LXI does not simply deliver English learning programmes—we provide a truly Irish experience, helping students learn English naturally while enjoying cultural immersion.

The list of available work placements and internships in Ireland grows annually, offering students a wide range of opportunities to match their skills and study preferences. Placements are limited to approximately three students per group in certain categories, while others can accommodate four to six students. Where larger numbers of students request difficult‑to‑source preferences, multiple locations may be used to meet project targets. These placements are typically limited to a maximum duration of six weeks. A B2 English level is mandatory, with Level II e‑Learning targets in place, and most companies require students to bring their own laptop to ensure GDPR compliance. Schools should plan to provide two laptops per ten students in these categories.

Students simply tell us their area of interest and skill set, and Internnship Experience Ireland (IE) will source a relevant work placement in Ireland. To support sustainability, Erasmus, Movetia, and PON programmes can be made carbon neutral through our LXI Sustainability Model and Airline Offset Refund Scheme, ensuring that mobility projects are both impactful and environmentally responsible.

Through these placements, students develop confidence in speaking English in a business environment, expand their vocabulary, and learn essential business terminology. A warm welcome and friendly Irish hospitality are cornerstones of our services and a defining feature of the Voluntary Work Placement programme experience.

For your next mobility programme in 2025 and 2026, choose Ireland as your destination and partner with Internship Experience Ireland—Ireland’s largest internship and work placement provider. Our essential OID number is E10117110, and with innovative technology, not all classrooms have walls—information delivery is now fully mobilised. Advanced AI technology has now been introduced into classrooms to support teaching and accelerate learning outcomes.

As a result, students develop confidence speaking English in live environments, expand their vocabulary, and acquire essential business terminology. A warm welcome and Irish hospitality remain cornerstones of the Language School experience.

More Information

Erasmus Partners in Ireland

The Erasmus+ programme (2021–2027) is the EU’s flagship initiative for education, training, youth, and sport. In 2013/14, around 6,900 students came to Ireland on Erasmus+ recognised programmes, many joining Language Xchange Ireland’s English programmes.

Building on this expertise, Internship Experience Ireland has over 12 years of experience delivering English language programmes, voluntary work placements, internships, a Business English Language School, and summer schools for teenagers. Our philosophy is simple: “Make Learning Unforgettable.” We believe the most impactful learning is experiential, immersed in Irish culture, daily life, and professional environments — proving that not all classrooms have walls.

IE partners with Erasmus+ funded projects across Europe, managing:

  • KA1 Staff Mobilities

  • KA2 Work Experience / Placement Projects

Our partners include schools, colleges, academies, universities, youth organisations, training organisations, foundations, private and non‑profit organisations, and job centres. We welcome groups of all ages and provide tailored support for international mobility programmes.
